VOLUNTEER

REASONS TO GET INVOLVED

The Women's Centre is a volunteer driven, collective run space. Coordinators and volunteers strive to create an environment free of sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and other barriers shared by all self-identified women.

Some REASONS to get involved!

1. Because we are still told that what we look like is more important than what we think.

2. Because women continue to face sexist violence every day - did you know that one in three women are likely to be raped during their lives and one in four will be sexually assaulted before 18 years of age.

3. Because although women still do two-thirds of the world's work, most of it unpaid, women still only earn about 70% of the average male wage, and we continue to do the majority of work in the household. Sixty-two percent of all minimum wage workers are women

4. Because together, we can change history. The women's movement at the turn of the century organized mass strikes for better pay and working conditions, and for the right to vote. They pioneered the massive changes in women's position and helped change societal attitudes about the role women can play. But this struggle needs to continue or our rights and positions will be rolled - back

5. Because trans women are not regarded as "real" women and still don't get treated equally by people, feminist and gay rights movements.

6. Because womyn of colour haven't been recognized by the previous women's movements and are rising up to educate and bring more awareness about intersections of oppression.

7. There are so many reasons to get involved that surpass this list. Remember that a women's place is at the forefront. Be a leader or an organizer ~ get active today!
